"Quadrophenia", is an opera rock studio album by The Who. The name is a variation on the popular usage of the medical diagnostic term schizophrenia as dissociative identity disorder, to reflect the four distinct personalities of Jimmy, the opera's protagonist – each said to represent the personality of one member of The Who.
The album itself describes the search of identity of a young angsty teenager against his mental illness.
Although this song is not part of the album, it should had been included:
Aquí, en los campos
Lucho con mis fines.
Manteniendo mis espaldas
Contra la vida.
No tengo que luchar
Para probar que tengo razón.
No necesito que nadie me perdone.
No llores.
No levantes la mirada.
Es sólo un baldío adolescente.
"Teenage Wasteland", The Who.
My favourite opera rock albums:
1. Tommy, The Who: A deaf, dumb, blind kid who masters Pinball and creates a religious sect.
2. The Wall, Pink Floyd: A paranoid rock star who has mommy-issues, is a prominent drug-user, and deals with his recent divorce.
3. Quadrophenia, The Who: A schizophrenic teenager who worships The Who.
4. Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness, Smashing Pumpkins: Splited into two parts, Day and Night, describes the average life of the youth in those specific daytimes.
5. The Black Parade, My Chemical Romance: A hospital patient who suffers from cancer. A lover behind.
6. La Hija de la Lágrima (Daughter of the Tear), Charly García: Risen from the underworld, fights for her freedom and against her loneliness.
7. American Idiot, Green Day: Born from the hatred of the damned, Jesus Of Suburbia.
Rule #1 for writing an opera rock: Your main character must be a sad fuck.
Rule #2: He/She/It/They must have some kind of illness.
Rule #3: There must be an epiphany.
